2017 Cruiser of the Year

Don Matero – 2017 Cruiser of the Year

1969 White Chevy Chevelle

Don Matero has been a dedicated and loyal cruiser since the beginning in 1990.  It all started with a ’39 Chevy and that car gave him the title of Cruiser of the Month in October of 1994.  Over the past 27 years, Don has showed and cruised in four other cars at Old Town.  This past year, we proudly give him the title of Cruiser of the Year with his 1969 White Chevy Chevelle with green interior.

Don’s Chevy was a labor of love for him.  Purchased 17 years ago in Miami, Don has put in countless hours restoring this classic to its original beauty.  He completely took apart and modified the engine by replacing all the parts with high performance.  The original engine was a 307 / 2sp and replaced with a 454 / 450 hp.  Most of the engine work was done by Mike Ford Engines in Oviedo, FL.

In addition to his affinity for car collecting, Don has been an active member of the community and Old Town’s charity cruiser events, including the Cruiser School Supply Drive every September and the Cruiser Toy Drive in December.

We thank Don Matero for being a part of our Saturday Nite Classic Car Show and Cruise for the past 27 years.  His dedication to Old Town has definitely not gone unnoticed. If you see Don and his 1969 White Chevy Chevelle, stop by and congratulation him on the honor of being our Cruiser of the Year.  Very well deserved, Don!
